Browser script execution via unescaped search errors
Published Oct 31, 2022 · Updated Jul 9, 2026
Cross-site scripting in ProcessWire 3.0.200 and earlier allows remote attackers to execute script in a user's browser via crafted search input. ProcessController::jsonMessage returns Search Users and Search Pages error text in JSON without HTML-encoding the attacker-controlled message. Successful exploitation requires a user to open the affected search response; the injected script runs in that user's ProcessWire origin and can read or modify data available to the session.
