Script execution via unsanitized tooltip HTML
Published Oct 11, 2022 · Updated Jul 9, 2026
Cross-site scripting in mxGraph 4.2.2 allows remote attackers to execute script in a user's browser through crafted tooltip content. The mxTooltipHandler.show() method assigns a string returned by graph.getTooltip() to a tooltip div's innerHTML without sanitizing it. Exploitation requires enabled tooltips and a user hover over an attacker-controlled graph node, after which the script runs in the embedding page's browser context.
