Code execution via unclaimed package dependency
Published Sep 19, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Dependency confusion in d8s-html 0.1.0 allows remote attackers to execute code through an unclaimed democritus-networking dependency. Its release metadata declares a democritus-* name no longer controlled by the maintainer, causing pip to resolve a third-party PyPI distribution. Execution requires installation of version 0.1.0 with dependency resolution enabled; the dependency's code runs with the installing Python environment's privileges.
