Authenticated code execution via unchecked ZIP paths
Published Sep 29, 2022 · Updated May 20, 2025
Path traversal in Chamilo LMS before 1.11.16 allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary code through a crafted ZIP upload. The ZIP extraction flow accepts ../ path segments in archive entry names and writes a supplied PHP file outside the intended upload directory. A standard user needs course assignment access and a modified upload-finalization request; an administrator can invoke extraction through the document upload interface, after which a request to the written PHP file executes it.
