CVE-2022-4037Network attack vector

Third-party account takeover via email verification race

Published Jan 12, 2023 · Updated Apr 8, 2025

A race condition in GitLab CE/EE before 15.5.7 allows remote authenticated users to forge verified email addresses through OAuth. GitLab identifies a time-of-check/time-of-use race in the OAuth-provider email-verification flow but has not published the exact state transition or code locus. Affected 15.6.0 through 15.6.3 and 15.7.0 through 15.7.1 instances are exposed when used as an OAuth provider, enabling takeover of third-party accounts that trust the forged email.
