Arbitrary file deletion via avatar path traversal
Published Nov 29, 2022 · Updated Apr 8, 2026
Path traversal in Simple:Press Forum 6.8 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to delete arbitrary server files during avatar deletion. The avatar-deletion handler accepts the file parameter as a filesystem path and deletes the referenced file without confining it to avatar storage. Subscriber access is sufficient; deletion of wp-config.php can permit site reconfiguration and subsequent remote code execution.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
