SYSTEM shell via inherited installer permissions
Published Sep 22, 2022 · Updated May 27, 2025
Privilege escalation in Crestron AirMedia for Windows before 5.5.1.84 allows local users to gain a SYSTEM-level shell. The Windows installation leaves security-critical resources with inherited permissions, and a repair operation processes those resources with SYSTEM privileges. A low-privileged local account is sufficient to initiate the repair, granting control of the Windows host.
