CVE-2022-40140

Endpoint protection removal via unvalidated listener commands

Published Sep 19, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Origin validation error in Trend Micro Apex One 2019 allows local users to delete the Security Agent through the NT Listener service. The NT Listener accepts commands without sufficiently validating their origin, allowing an untrusted local command to uninstall the endpoint agent. Low-privileged code execution on a Windows endpoint is required, and exploitation removes endpoint protection rather than affecting confidentiality or integrity.
