Command injection in Microchip SyncServer S650 before 2.2 allows remote authenticated users to execute commands through its web interface. The /controller/ping.php endpoint passes its hostname field to a shell without neutralizing metacharacters, so backticks execute as root. Successful exploitation grants root-level code execution and can disrupt the timing service; access to an authenticated management session is required.
