Server crash via duplicate RTMP play session
Published Feb 15, 2023 · Updated Mar 19, 2025
Use-after-free in ireader media-server librtmp allows remote attackers to crash the RTMP server with a crafted play request. The aio_rtmp_server_onplay callback creates another rtmp_player_t for an aio_rtmp_session_t already in the players list instead of returning the existing player, allowing later use of freed session memory. Exploitation requires network access to an active RTMP stream and a second crafted play message; the demonstrated consequence is a server-process crash.
