IMEI disclosure via unauthenticated emergency calls
Published Dec 8, 2022 · Updated Apr 22, 2025
Improper authorization in Samsung Mobile Devices before SMR Dec-2022 Release 1 allows remote attackers to obtain an IMEI by emergency call. The Exynos baseband processes the emergency-call path without proper authentication and returns sensitive device information, including the IMEI. The attacker requires adjacent cellular access but no credentials or user interaction; the documented consequence is confidentiality loss only.
