CVE-2022-39844

Arbitrary directory deletion via directory junction

Published Sep 9, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Improper integrity-check validation in Samsung Smart Switch PC before 4.3.22083 allows local users to delete arbitrary directories via junctions. During installation, Smart Switch accepts a directory junction in its working directory and follows that redirection when deleting directory contents. A low-privileged local user must prepare the junction before the installer operates; the demonstrated consequence is deletion rather than code execution or disclosure.
