Message impersonation via unverified correction sender
Published Sep 27, 2022 · Updated May 21, 2025
Improper access control in Gajim 1.4.7 and earlier allows remote attackers to alter others' displayed messages using crafted XML stanzas. The message-correction handler accepts a replace element referencing a message without verifying that the correcting stanza's sender originated that message. Participant access to the group chat or single chat is required, and successful exploitation falsifies the displayed conversation history.
