Signing interruption via unchecked EC coordinate failure
Published Sep 5, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Denial of service in Samsung mTower 0.3.0 and earlier allows attackers to interrupt firmware-information signing via a crafted ECDSA key file. The sign_pFwInfo function in tools/fwinfogen.c ignores a failed EC_KEY_set_public_key_affine_coordinates call and continues to sign with the invalid key. Reachability requires control of the command-line key file, and the published evidence establishes disruption of firmware generation rather than a device-wide crash.
