Stored XSS via unescaped shortcode attributes
Published Dec 19, 2022 · Updated Apr 17, 2025
Stored cross-site scripting in Checkout for PayPal before 1.0.14 allows remote authenticated users to inject scripts through shortcode attributes. The checkout_for_paypal_button_handler function outputs the item_description and amount attributes without sufficient validation or context-appropriate escaping. Contributor access is sufficient to store the payload in a page or post, and the script executes when another user views or previews that content.
