CVE-2022-3964Network attack vector

Out-of-bounds read via unclamped final block height

Published Nov 13, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Out-of-bounds read in FFmpeg's QuickTime RPZA encoder allows remote attackers to crash an application via crafted video input. The final-block loops in libavcodec/rpzaenc.c always process four rows without clamping the count to the frame's remaining height. A user or application must encode attacker-controlled video with a height not divisible by four; the resulting read accesses adjacent process memory and terminates the process when it faults.
