Arbitrary file writes via unsanitized ZIP paths
Published Oct 28, 2022 · Updated Apr 22, 2025
Path traversal in QTIWorks before 1.0-beta15 allows remote authenticated users to write outside the import directory via crafted ZIP entries. AssessmentPackageFileImporter joins each untrusted entry name to the import sandbox path and writes it without checking that the normalized destination remains inside that sandbox. Default deployments require instructor privileges to upload packages; enabling the public demo exposes arbitrary writable-file modification to unauthenticated attackers.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
