Stored XSS via unsanitized Showdown output
Published Oct 25, 2022 · Updated Apr 23, 2025
Stored XSS in OWASP Dependency-Track Frontend before 4.6.1 allows remote authenticated users to execute JavaScript in other users' browsers. The Vulnerability Details renderer places Showdown's unsanitized HTML output into the page, allowing payloads in Description, Details, Recommendation, or References attributes to run. Exploitation requires VULNERABILITY_MANAGEMENT permission and a VIEW_PORTFOLIO user to open the altered vulnerability page, enabling script execution in that user's frontend session.
