Account takeover via user-controlled profile identifier
Published Dec 12, 2022 · Updated Apr 22, 2025
IDOR in wpWax Directorist before 7.4.2.2 allows remote authenticated users to change arbitrary WordPress account passwords. The update_user_profile AJAX action accepts the caller-controlled user[ID] value and applies the supplied new password to that selected account rather than binding the update to the caller. Subscriber-level access and a valid Directorist nonce are sufficient, enabling administrator-account takeover without user interaction.
