Client event-processing disruption via missing location validation
Published Sep 28, 2022 · Updated Apr 23, 2025
Improper input validation in matrix-js-sdk 17.1.0-rc.1 and later before 19.7.0 allows remote authenticated users to disrupt event processing. The parseBeaconContent helper destructures location fields returned by M_LOCATION.findIn without checking whether malformed content omitted the location object, causing an exception. A Matrix room participant can supply the event; affected clients can appear operational while excluding or corrupting runtime data.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
