CVE-2022-39226Network attack vector

Profile-loading denial of service via oversized fields

Published Sep 29, 2022 · Updated Apr 23, 2025

Improper input validation in Discourse 2.8.8 and earlier and beta before 2.9.0.beta10 allows remote authenticated users to disrupt profile loading. The UserProfile model and database columns accepted unbounded location and website strings instead of enforcing the intended 3,000-character maximum. Any account able to edit its profile can store oversized values, causing availability problems when other users load that profile.
