Code execution via unsanitized CSV formula fields
Published Sep 16, 2022 · Updated Apr 23, 2025
CSV formula injection in Natalie Somersall ghas-to-csv before 1 allows remote attackers to trigger code execution when exported data is opened. The code-scanning, enterprise, and secret-scanning exporters use Python's standard csv module, which does not neutralize values interpreted as formulas. Exploitation requires attacker-controlled alert or custom-field content and a recipient who opens the generated CSV in a formula-evaluating spreadsheet.
