Performer identity disclosure via missing suppression checks
Published Jan 20, 2023 · Updated Apr 3, 2025
Information disclosure in MediaWiki CheckUser through 1.39.x allows remote attackers to view suppressed performers of edits and logs. CheckUser result pages, Special:Investigate, and the CheckUser API return performer identities without consistently enforcing suppression visibility. No authentication or user interaction is required, and exposure is limited to identities attached to suppressed edits and logged actions.
