CVE-2022-3913

Update traffic interception via unvalidated TLS certificate

Published Feb 1, 2023 · Updated Mar 26, 2025

Improper certificate validation in Rapid7 Nexpose and InsightVM 6.6.82 through 6.6.177 allows attackers to intercept update traffic. The update downloader establishes HTTPS sessions without validating the update server's TLS certificate, accepting an attacker-controlled endpoint. Exploitation requires control of a network-path node plus DNS spoofing or traffic redirection; separate package signing blocks routine malicious updates.
