Memory corruption via slashless modpack URL
Published Aug 31, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Buffer overflow in Freeciv Modpack Installer before 2.6.7 and before 3.0.3 allows context-dependent attackers to overwrite memory via a crafted URL. When a URL contains no slash, the utility derives an unsigned length from -1 and copies the entire NUL-terminated URL past its allocated buffer. Exploitation requires a user to supply the crafted URL to the installer, exposing the installer process and its accessible data to memory corruption.
