CVE-2022-38934Public exploit

Utility crash via unchecked ELF string offset

Published Sep 28, 2022 · Updated May 21, 2025

Out-of-bounds reads in ToaruOS readelf 2.0.1 allow local users to crash the utility by processing a crafted ELF file. The relocation-section printer treats sectionHeader.sh_name as a string-table offset and passes the resulting pointer to printf without first confirming that it remains inside the mapped ELF file. Exploitation requires readelf to process the attacker-supplied file and causes a segmentation fault and temporary interruption of that utility.
