CVE-2022-38887Network attack vector

Code execution via malicious dependency installation

Published Sep 19, 2022 · Updated Jun 3, 2025

Malicious dependency inclusion in d8s-python 0.1.0 allows attackers to execute code through the democritus-strings package. The 0.1.0 package metadata causes pip to install democritus-strings, whose public namespace allowed a third party to publish arbitrary malicious code. Execution requires installing the affected d8s-python release from PyPI, after which dependency installation can run attacker-controlled code with the installing user's privileges.
