Code execution via dependency-confused package installation
Published Sep 19, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Dependency confusion in d8s-xml 0.1.0 allows attackers to execute arbitrary code when the package is installed from PyPI. The dependency declaration resolves the uncontrolled democritus-strings project name through PyPI, causing pip to install a third-party package capable of running arbitrary code. Exploitation requires installation of the affected release, and the payload receives the installing user or automation account's privileges.
