Code execution via uncontrolled PyPI dependency
Published Sep 19, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Dependency confusion in d8s-grammars 0.1.0 allows attackers to execute arbitrary code when the package is installed from PyPI. Its package metadata declares democritus-strings, a dependency name outside the maintainer's control, so pip retrieves and installs third-party code. Execution requires installation of the yanked 0.1.0 release and is bounded to the privileges of the Python environment running pip.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
