Code execution via third-party dependency confusion
Published Sep 19, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Dependency confusion in d8s-json 0.1.0 allows attackers to execute code through a malicious democritus-strings package. The release metadata names an uncontrolled third-party dependency, so pip resolves and installs a package uploaded under that name. Installing the affected release is the gate; public sources do not disclose whether installation alone triggers payload execution or identify the malicious code path.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
