Code execution via abandoned dependency takeover
Published Sep 19, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Supply-chain code execution in d8s-archives 0.1.0 allows remote attackers to deliver malicious Python code through a dependency-confusion package. The release declares democritus-strings, a package name no longer controlled by the maintainer, so pip resolves and installs the third party's package. Exploitation requires installation of d8s-archives 0.1.0 and permits code supplied through that dependency to run in the installation environment.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
