Crash via AVI header out-of-bounds write
Published Sep 15, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Out-of-bounds write in MPlayer SVN-r38374-13.0.1 and MEncoder SVN-r38374-13.0.1 allows attackers to crash via a crafted AVI file. The read_avi_header routine in libmpdemux/aviheader.c writes beyond its intended buffer while parsing a malformed AVI header; the exact triggering field is undisclosed. A user must open the crafted file, after which MPlayer or MEncoder can crash; no data access or modification is established.
