Application crash via unchecked MOV sample data
Published Sep 15, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Out-of-bounds write in MPlayer and MEncoder SVN-r38374-13.0.1 allows attackers to crash the application via a crafted MOV file. The gen_sh_video path in libmpdemux/demux_mov.c accesses undersized MOV sample-description data without the bounds checks added in upstream revision r38384. A user must open the file, and the published NVD impact is limited to an application crash with no confidentiality or integrity effect.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.

Attacks
What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
