Authenticated root command execution via traceroute metacharacters

Published Apr 16, 2023 · Updated Feb 6, 2025

OS command injection in Linksys E8450 AX3200 firmware 1.1.00 allows remote authenticated users to execute commands as root via traceroute input. The diagnostics traceroute page passes a supplied host value containing shell metacharacters into a privileged command context without neutralization. Access to authenticated router management is required; injected delimiters such as a pipe run arbitrary operating-system commands with root privileges.
