Subscriber-level plugin installation via unchecked AJAX handler
Published Dec 12, 2022 · Updated Apr 22, 2025
Incorrect authorization in WP Memory before 2.46 allows remote authenticated users to install and activate arbitrary WordPress.org plugins. The wpmemory_install_plugin AJAX handler accepts a caller-supplied slug and invokes WordPress installation and activation operations without checking an administrative capability. Subscriber-level access is sufficient; installed plugins can alter site behavior, while further compromise depends on the selected plugin's capabilities.
