CVE-2022-38778Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Authenticated service crash via malformed URI decoding

Published Feb 8, 2023 · Updated Mar 25, 2025

Improper input validation in Elastic Kibana 7.0.0 through 7.17.8 and 8.0.0 through 8.6.0 allows remote authenticated users to crash the server. The bundled decode-uri-component decoder mishandles a malformed percent-encoded sequence and calls join on a non-array result, raising an uncaught TypeError. Any authenticated Kibana user who can submit the crafted request can terminate the server process and interrupt service.
