Password disclosure via forgeable browser-extension API tokens
Published Dec 19, 2022 · Updated Apr 14, 2025
Authentication bypass in Click Studios Passwordstate before build 9611 allows remote attackers with a valid username to read stored passwords. The browser-extension API accepts tokens made from concatenated user data encrypted with a hardcoded XOR key, then authenticates and authorizes solely on the embedded username. Only a known username and network access to the API are required; successful requests return cleartext credentials associated with URL-bearing records.
