Stored XSS via unrestricted shortcode attributes
Published Nov 22, 2022 · Updated Apr 29, 2025
Stored XSS in Silverstripe CMS shortcode rendering allows remote authenticated users to inject JavaScript into front-end pages. Built-in shortcode providers accept arbitrary attributes from HTML editor content and render them without an attribute allowlist. Content-author access is required, and the payload executes in a visitor's browser when an affected page is viewed, without server code execution.
