Admin stored XSS via unsanitized plugin settings
Published Sep 23, 2022 · Updated Apr 28, 2026
Cross-site scripting in MaxButtons 9.2 and earlier allows remote authenticated administrators to execute script via stored plugin settings. The plugin insufficiently sanitizes input and escapes output before rendering saved button configuration, allowing payloads to persist and run in viewers' browsers. Administrator authentication and a victim viewing affected content are required; the documented impact is browser-side integrity compromise without service interruption.
