Stored script execution via unsanitized community posts
Published Sep 9, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Stored cross-site scripting in Markdown-Nice 1.8.22 allows remote authenticated users to execute scripts through Community Posting content. The Markdown preview renders Community Posting input as HTML without neutralizing event-handler attributes, so an injected img element runs its onerror handler. An attacker must be able to submit a community post, and script execution occurs when the crafted content is rendered in another user's browser.
