Insufficient firmware validation in PATLITE NH-FB firmware 1.46 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to execute code as root. The /cgi-bin/firm_update.cgi handler accepts a repacked firmware archive without authenticating its code signature, and the update process executes a modified /pns-b/install-web script. Access to the authenticated web interface is required; PATLITE disputes the issue as an intended design choice, while the published proof of concept demonstrates root control.
