Script execution via unsanitized comment user agent
Published Sep 19, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Cross-site scripting in Valine 1.4.18 allows remote attackers to execute script in a viewer's browser through a crafted comment POST request. The comment renderer inserts the stored user-agent value into an HTML string and assigns it with html() without first neutralizing markup. No authentication is required to submit the value, but a user must view the affected comment for the script to run in that browser.
