CVE-2022-38474Network attack vector

Covert audio recording via unhandled status callbacks

Published Dec 22, 2022 · Updated Apr 15, 2025

Missing recording notification in Mozilla Firefox for Android before 104 allows remote attackers to record audio after microphone approval. The Android Components Gecko engine session did not register a media delegate to translate onRecordingStatusChanged device events into observer state, so the browser never displayed the active-recording notification. A user must first grant the site microphone permission; the flaw neither bypasses that prompt nor affects desktop platforms, but a permitted site can continue recording without the expected indicator.
