Reflected XSS via unsanitized header values
Published Nov 22, 2022 · Updated Apr 29, 2025
Reflected XSS in Silverstripe Framework before 4.11.13 allows remote attackers to execute script via a crafted backURL parameter. HTTPResponse::addHeader stores a caller-supplied Location header value without stripping vertical whitespace, allowing CRLF from backURL to enter the response. Exploitation requires a user to follow the malicious link and the site to expose PHP warnings in the browser, a condition enabled by the dev environment setting.
