Physical command execution via unprotected serial interface
Published Sep 8, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
OS command execution in PLANEX SmaCam CS-QR10 and SmaCam Night Vision CS-QR20 all versions allows physically proximate attackers to run commands. The device's specific serial connection lacks a protection mechanism, but JPCERT/CC does not identify the command parser or execution function. Physical access to that connection is required, and successful exploitation grants arbitrary OS command execution on the camera.
