Application crash via unchecked embedded-file stream
Published Aug 22, 2023 · Updated Nov 3, 2025
Reachable assertion in Poppler 22.08.0 allows remote attackers to crash PDF-processing applications via a crafted PDF file. PDFDoc::replacePageDict saves an embedded file without first verifying that the replacement page object is a stream, allowing malformed input to reach an assertion in Object.h. A user or consuming application must process the crafted PDF; successful exploitation aborts the affected process without reported data disclosure or modification.
