Authenticated code execution via unchecked sprintf
Published Sep 15, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Stack buffer overflow in Tenda AC15 and AC18 firmware 15.03.05.19_multi allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary code. The httpd handler for /goform/NatStaticSetting passes the POST page value directly to sprintf into a stack-local buffer, allowing it to overwrite the function return address. The published proof of concept first authenticates to the web interface and then supplies a crafted page value to redirect execution to system(), so valid administrator credentials and network access to the management service are required.
