Process crash via null write in DCTStream
Published Aug 16, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Denial of service in Xpdf at commit ffaf11c allows local users to crash pdftops by processing a crafted PDF file. DCTStream::readMCURow in xpdf/Stream.cc writes through a null pointer while decoding the file's DCT image data, causing a segmentation fault. User interaction or another local file-processing workflow is required, and the demonstrated consequence is termination of the pdftops process.
