Crash via out-of-bounds DCTStream read
Published Aug 16, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Heap-buffer overflow in Xpdf commit ffaf11c allows context-dependent attackers to crash pdftops with a crafted PDF file. While decoding a DCT stream, DCTStream::getChar reads four bytes immediately beyond a 131072-byte heap allocation in Stream.cc. A victim must process the file; the public reproducer demonstrates an AddressSanitizer abort, not code execution or persistent data alteration.
