Application crash via out-of-bounds DCT read
Published Aug 16, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Heap-buffer overflow in Xpdf 3.04 allows context-dependent attackers to crash pdftops by supplying a crafted PDF file. When pdftops decodes the embedded DCT/JPEG stream, DCTStream::transformDataUnit reads two bytes beyond a heap allocation. Processing the file requires user interaction and aborts pdftops under AddressSanitizer; code execution has not been demonstrated publicly.
